About Me :
Hi Folks,

My government name is Edward Curtis Chandler. I'm a Self-employed handyman that specializes in remodling Victorian era homes. I'm also legally retired, but still work everyday that I can. I love to work. I received my native name of Broken Feather at the age of 4 1/2 years old. It was bestowed on me by my Haudenosaunee Grandfather in 1949. During this assembly of other native americans for my naming ceremony, we were all arrested by agents of the Boston office of the FBI, for illegal assembly. I'll never forget this big man putting handcuffs on me. I was only 4 1/2 years old and crying my eyes out and petrified of what was happening! This experiance has always weighed greatly on me and has always made me leary of all white men. I'm extremely proud to be a Haudenosaunee (Mohawk) Metis Elder and a US Navy Veteran. I've been divorced for over 28 years and like my independance. I have a beautiful 30 year old daughter and two wonderful grandchildren. Neiko my grandson will be 7 in August and his sister Kyra just turned 4 this month.

Metis Family History:
Before recorded times, my ancestors lived along the Niagra river in what I think was New York State, but the historical family home was the Canadian Haudenosaunee (Mohawk) Reserve of Caugnawaga, now named Kahnawake, in Quebec Canada. My family left Kahnawake after disputes with the French Jesuits and over the years traveled along the northern side of the St. Lawrence Seaway until they ultimately settled in a village named St. Fidele, Quebec, Canada in the 1720's. Which is situated far north of Quebec City. It was there that they intermarried with the Montagnais and French Canadians. It was told by my grandfather that our relatives took part in the 1704 raid of Deerfield Village in western Massachusetts. They met up with the French and Abenaki at Fort Chambly on the Richelieu river rapids and moved south to Deerfield. I still have family that lives in Chambly and on the Reserve Kahnawake.

A Native American Tribe in desperate need of human intervention is the Lakota/Sioux people living on the Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Reservations, in South Dakota.

I'm appalled at the conditions that these Native Americans live under. There are so many needs within the Native American community that tug on my heart strings, that I wonder where the focus of the world is headed? Most americans either don't know about the problems facing Native American families, or they know and simply don't care!

I concider myself fortunate, as a Native American Haudenosaunee (Mohawk)Metis, to have always been gainfully employed. I've lived a trememdously wonderful life, enjoying all of lifes riches and now place myself in the position to assist other native americans in real need of assistance. I owe this to my ancestors and my present family structure. I simply couldn't live with myself, if I didn't make dire and sincere jestures to help my fellow Native Americans.
If you are reading this journal, I hope you take the time to share this information with your friends and family. Anything that you can do to help, will be gratefully appreciated. The Lakota/Sioux people are very proud, but desperately in need of our help! Click on the above link and see for yourself how you can help.

Tansi Ed, Thanks for the comments you left on my page. I reading of my family historywqe did trade with other native groups to the south. As a matter of fact my Grandfather's 1st son became an interpertor for the frech with the many other tribes in the region. He was well respected with the other nations and many time took priest who wanted to meet and see what was around them. He helped the other tribes make deals with the french in selling goods and hides at a far market rate and made sure no one was treated unfairly. He'd walk away from anything that did not look or sound right. The other tribes respected him for that.

I too have served in the US Navy for eight years at the beginning and thru the Viet Nam era of the war. Miigwitch for the kind words and I hope we meet up sometime n the future. I do travel to a few Pow Wows and I do drum at most of them. I have drums who see me and make sure I sit down and join them. I love singing and they always make me take the lead and control the drumming. Take Care, Harry Soaring Hawk
