Oméigwessi was the nickname of Manitoba old-time fiddler Walter Flett, and it means Ukrainian in Ojibwe.
Many Thanks for posting this tribute....Walter Flett was a good man and could really make the fiddle sing. I remember him visiting with my Grandparents and the many times my Grandparents, mom, dad, aunts, uncles and cousins going to Bosco to not only going to listen to him play but also to enjoy the dancing. I'm sorry I missed the the tribute at the West End Cultural Centre this past Thursday March 20th.
I know that Granma and Grandpa are in Spirit World jigging up a storm because Walter is still performing and I know dad is right beside him accompaning him on his guitar.
